Frequently asked questions
How much does Adeslas health insurance cost?
There is no single price. The premium depends on the age of each person insured, the province you live in and which plan you choose, and it usually rises with age at renewal. A plan with a small fee per visit costs less each month than one with no fee at all. Use the calculator on this site for an indicative monthly range in thirty seconds, then an agent confirms the exact premium before anything is signed.
What does Adeslas Plena Total cover?
Plena Total is the full-cover plan: primary care, specialists, diagnostic tests, hospital admission and surgery in the insurer's network, plus the usual extras such as digital consultations. Standard waiting periods still apply to certain benefits such as surgery and maternity. Exclusions and limits are set out in the policy conditions, which we go through with you before you sign.
Does Adeslas have copayments?
Some plans do and some do not. Co-payment plans charge a small fee each time you use a service in exchange for a lower monthly premium, which suits people who rarely see a doctor. Plans without co-payments cost more per month but nothing per visit.
Does Adeslas cover pregnancy and childbirth?
Maternity cover is included in the full plans, but it is one of the benefits most often subject to a waiting period, so a pregnancy that has already begun when you take out the policy is generally not covered. The practical advice is to take out cover well before you plan to conceive. Ask us to confirm the current waiting period for the plan you are considering before you commit.
Can I take out Adeslas if I am self-employed?
Yes. Private health insurance is available to autónomos on the same terms as anyone else, and many self-employed residents take it alongside their public cover to avoid waiting times. Depending on your situation, health insurance premiums for you and your dependants may be deductible against your Spanish income tax, within the limits set by the tax rules. Check the deduction with your gestor or tax adviser — we can tell you what the policy documents will show.
Does Adeslas offer dental insurance?
Yes. Dental cover is available as a standalone policy or added to a health plan. It typically includes check-ups, hygiene and X-rays at no extra charge within the network, with a fixed published price list for treatments such as fillings, crowns and orthodontics. It is the cheapest way to make dental costs predictable rather than a surprise.
What are the advantages of Adeslas compared to other insurers?
The main practical advantages are the size of the medical network, which makes it easier to find a nearby practice and, on the coast, an English-speaking one, and the range of plans, which lets you move between co-payment and no-co-payment cover as your circumstances change. Which insurer suits you still depends on your age, province and how you actually use healthcare.
Does Adeslas offer telemedicine?
Yes. Video and telephone consultations with a doctor are part of the current plans and are booked through the insurer's app, usually with same-day availability. It is a genuinely useful feature if your Spanish is limited or you live somewhere rural, because you can get an initial opinion and a referral without travelling. Prescriptions and referrals issued this way work in the same network as an in-person visit.
Are there waiting periods with Adeslas?
Standard policies apply waiting periods to certain benefits — typically surgery, hospital admission, some diagnostic procedures and maternity — while primary care and basic tests are usually available straight away. Ask us which waiting periods apply to the exact plan you are quoted.
Can I take out a policy before I have my NIE?
Usually yes, and in many cases you have to, because the insurance certificate is part of the visa or residency file you submit before the NIE exists. The insurer will normally accept a passport number instead, and the NIE is added to the policy later. Tell your agent exactly where you are in the process and they will confirm what the insurer needs from you today.
Do you offer cover for companies and employees?
Yes. We arrange Adeslas company agreements for businesses and self-employed people in Spain, covering employees and, if you want, their partners and children. Company rates improve as the group grows, so adding people usually brings the per-person premium down. We handle the setup with the insurer and the ongoing administration — joiners, leavers, invoicing and renewals — in English. Ask for a callback and we will put a company quote together for your headcount.
